Hi everyone,

The Australian RepRap groups seem to be losing a bit of momentum lately, I think this may be due to the lack of parts here in Oz.

I have looked at sourcing all the metal parts from the U.S and am inquiring to see how many people would be interested in a kit.

The kit contains:

1 brass nozzle with a 0.4mm orifice
1 brass heater barrel
1 PTFE thermal break
1 steel drive screw
2 brass half-bearings for the drive screw
2 nuts for the steel drive screw

I am currently waiting for the pricing to bring in a bulk lot and will let anyone interested know

Please reply if your interested.

Hi everyone.
I've just started looking at the reprap and I must say I am excited.

Before I start are there any tips etc anyone is willing to give. In particular anyone from Perth that has suggestions on where the best place to get parts etc is. Or if anyone wants to volunteer to make any parts for a reasonable payment.

Hello all,

Hopefully this is the most useful place to post this.

I'm in Melbourne and have been very slowly working on a BfB kit. It is close to the point where I'm happy to try doing some test prints. The only trouble I'm having, is that I'm not sure where to obtain some ABS or PLA or whatever else is recommended for a first set of prints.

I've had a pretty good trawl through the forums, putzed around on Google for a half hour or so, and even found a few leads, but nothing really has hit. Neither Plastral nor Dotmar look like they've got what I want and the closest provider I can find is CARR group in NZ (assuming 3mm diameter ABS 'welding rod' is appropriate). As much as I like stimulating the world economy, spending more on shipping than actual product doesn't really appeal to me very much.

Where are everyone else in AUS getting their print materials? If this is the right stuff and our best supplier is actually in NZ, anyone else want to go in on a shipment? I suspect that we can cut down the percentage costs of shipping considerably if we were to order several rolls...

Anyway, please let me know if I'm just missing something or if a collaborative order sounds like a good idea to any of you.

Thanks,
Bob

I have access to a lathe and possibly a mill, but i have decided to try and build an extruder from scratch, using tools and materials available to anyone and for as little cost as possible, As an apprentice i had to file steel blocks down to a thou' so this shouldn't be too hard.

I've produced a drawing of the screw holder and the polymer holder from the stl images, and they are fully dimensioned if any body wants these drawings let me know, you can have them in: turbocad; dxf; png; gif; jpeg or perhaps something else.

I making a mould to cast these parts. for the initial forms i have used plascticene, i carefully shaped the screw holder to within 0.1 - 0.25 mm (not very good), left it for a few days the temperature went over 30 C and that was the end of attempt 1.

I'm keeping the form in the freezer and slowly shaping it, i'm going to make it over size and file it down.

Plascticene is; cheap; readily available; comes in nice colours and i had a kilo of it, But it's really too soft at room temperature and hard to work on accuratly.
I've got pottery clay out the back i may try that next
feel free to make suggestions

With VIK announcing his revised ponoko design for acrylic I will be going forward with getting one.

I have found a local laser cutting service in Perth that can cut the new design.

What I was wondering if there were any other Perth Reprappers that would want to get one too.

Bulk buy would be cheaper per unit.
