Suggestion for the Repstrap template stickers (no replies)

Hi, I just thought I'd throw this suggestion out there:

I noticed that the sticker templates for the Mcwire Repstrap don't have any center markings for the holes, it might make things a lot easier and accurate if there were little crosses marking the exact centers, especially with the larger holes where it is easy to misjudge where that is.

Thanks, keep up the great work!

Whoops, just looking through all the stickers and a lot of them do have centers, apparently the ones that really need to be accurate, but still it would be handy on all of them to keep things neat and tidy.

Greetings Admin(s) et al,

Is the search function broken -- or am I doing something wrong?

I tried searching on the single term PLA (for all forums and all times), but I get zero results.
However, this string is in both message subjects and messages in the last month.
Is a three letter string too short for our search function?

(If so, ABS is in a similar boat.)

Please put a divider between someone's message and his sig. I'm getting really sick of reading a message, and then reading things like
"Necessity hopefully becomes the absentee parent of successfully invented children."
"Bodge it"
"If we open a quarrel between the past and the present, we shall find we have lost the future."
Only to find halfway through that I'm reading someone's signature...

Sorry about the tone of this message, I'm a little frustrated. But would it be an option to put a horizontal ruler in or something?

the german reprap forum has a lot of entries. most of them are cut off at some point. some said it occurs when 'umlaut'-characters: the a, the u, the o with two dots on top where used.
please check the website encoding settings.
maybe it is similar in french and other languages with non-english characters.
we really need this forum to participate.
thank you so much for your work.

Re-linking Green RepRap Logos to main reprap page? (4 replies)

Greetings forum admin(s?),

The green reprap logos (top left corner of all forum/subforum pages) used to act as a link to the main reprap webpage, [www.reprap.org]. That's no longer the case.

Some forum pages (e.g. the one on the top-level, [dev.forums.reprap.org] ) no longer function as links at all.
Other sub-forums, like [dev.forums.reprap.org] do have logos that still function as links, but they seem to link to the TL forum page, rather than to the main reprap page. SInce each sub-forum has a link "forum list" already, having the logo link to the forum list page is redundant.

I preferred the old setup, where (via the logo-links) I was one click away from the main page from any forum (and thus two clicks away from either the main or builders' blogs.)

The makerbot group on Google Groups (http://groups.google.com/group/makerbot) seems to be thriving, and may well eventually supplant the RepRap forum if something isn't done to improve it.
Would there be an objection to experimenting with a RepRap group?

Is it possible to have an option to bring updated threads to the top of the list?

Reason being, some of the forums have lots of pages and as a result the new posts may be on page 25 for example, but you have to search the forum to find them, this is very inconvenient.

It may be the design of the software used, but if we can make it selectable, those who are happy with the current format can continue using it in this fashion and those who are not can change it in their profile settings.

Hi there,
somehow all nonenglish characters are not allowed anymore;
even worse the rest of the posting isn't shown anymore.

Hopefully it's just a decoding problem and the database is still in complete.

Yesterdays hint on this subject:
[forums.reprap.org]

And today the german subforum is almost useless too.

If you need any help with that, just drop me a line,
made the same mistake once, I think I can fix it (faultless database presumed)

The RepRap Parts Lister says that one of the components for the RepStrap v1.0 "Seedling" is a Thermoplast Extruder v1.0 [1]. But the RepRap website says to use the later version v1.1 Thermoplast Extruder (at least, that's what's linked at [2]. The Parts Lister should be updated so that people don't buy the wrong parts if they want to put together a Seedling.

A feature that is really helpful in other forms around the net: "find all posts/threads by (username)"

This is good for keeping track of your own posts, if you posted in a few threads but aren't watching them closely.
It's also useful collecting information from a specific person. For example--someone working on a similar plan or with experience making a particular thing work, especially when it crosses several forums.

This could also cut down on excessive PMs from newbies like me :)

Idea re the Wanted, for Sale forums: Combine, add "for Swap" (1 reply)

Greetings forum Admins et al,

Given the minimum purchase requirements for some reprap and repstrap materials, I would like to explore the idea of swapping among reprappers, as an alternative to buying/selling for cash. To me, this seems more in the cooperative spirit, whatever economists say about barter....
It might also make it a bit easier for people to experiment with reprap/repStrap design, even if they don't own all the means of production.

One thing that would facilitate this might be to combine the Wanted and for Sale forums (neither of which is that busy) and add "Swap" to the forum title/description. If users followed the convention of putting "for sale" "wanted" or "for Swap" in thread titles, then people could determine from titles which to read.

I'm planning to buy some items like this (e.g. teflon, high-temperature insulating materials, small diam drill bits.) Ideally, I'd like to put the excess in the hands of other reprappers, in exchange for reprap-useful items they may have.

Worth doing?

just a suggestion:

Could you please edit the breadcrumblink* to point "RepRap"to forums.reprap.org/index.php
instead of reprap.org ?
Mainpage is already linked within the logo itself, and that tiny "Goto: Forum List" is just to small to be good enough.
